the landmark 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, which struck down laws banning interracial marriage in the United States. The case centered on Mildred Jeter, a Black and Native American woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, who married in Washington, D.C. to avoid Virginia’s anti-miscegenation laws. After returning home, they were arrested, convicted, and forced to leave the state for 25 years.
Today we say thank God we have moved forward from the past indiscretions. But have we? We say that God is Love and Love is God, but I ask, what does that truly mean to us? Jesus taught we are the light of the world. Therefore, I ask myself and you dear friends, how bright is your light shinning?
